Self-Sabotaging Entrepreneurs (with respect to Advertising)

𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀

I make fun of Zuck a lot.

Darth Zuck the Destroyer.

Lord Zuck the Inconsistent.

King Zuckerberg the Disapproving.

And I’m not really sorry for that because hey, FB is practically stealing money from a lot of people.

But it’s not all his fault.

As much as it pains me to admit it, a lot of times advertisers are their own worst saboteurs.

They buck the process.

They’re tempted to get emotional.

They might even make big changes based on 0 data.

Everyone is tempted, once the ads are up and running and you’re paying for them, to get worried and think the ads aren’t performing as well as you would like. Everyone has that little voice in their head saying, “Go ahead… turn it off. You’re spending money. There are no conversions. This isn’t working. Turn it off.”

Bzzt. No.

You have to untrain that little voice.

When you start thinking that, I want you to imagine me sitting there saying, “ it has been 16 minutes. Wait till the data comes in.”

Look, advertisers have enough on their plate, especially on FB.

You’ve got Baron von Zuckerberg trying to rip your ads down.

You’ve got skeptical markets.

You’ve got out-of-control CPA.

You don’t need to add your own self-sabotage to all that.

And yes, it’s a lot better on YouTube.

But still… the temptation to get emotional is there.

The cure?

Is simply committing to the process.

Doing your metrics.

Tracking your input and results.


And here’s the thing — it’s dangerous to do all that yourself.

When it’s just you and your ads, it’s easier to give into the temptation. It’s easier to blow off your metrics or get emotional about tests. It’s easy to have the wrong mindset… and watch your numbers go off the rails.

But it’s very, very hard for all of that to happen under the guidance of a good program with great coaches.
